Home Buying: Construction of House on Wetland

Fine Living

Construction

If you’re considering having your home built on wetland, or if you’re a contractor building a home in wet, unstable conditions, you’ll probably need to make use of bog mats during construction. Bog mats allow for easier construction on wetland, as they allow you to create temporary roadways that make transporting materials more convenient while also preventing any damage to the environment. Here are a few of the ways in which bog mats and similar products can allow for easier building in wetland areas:

Convenient Pathways:

The biggest advantaging of using bog mats, also called swamp mats or wetland mats, is that you can build a temporary pathway across swamps, bogs, or other waterlogged areas. The mats are versatile because they come in a variety of sizes and thicknesses, can be stacked on top of each other, and are extremely durable. They’re strong enough to drive vehicles over and can be easily removed once construction is finished.

Reduce Surface Damage:

One problem with building a home on unstable ground is that heavy loads passing over the ground’s surface can damage both the turf itself as well as any below-ground utilities, such as water lines or other piping. This is where swamp mats come in. Any reliable type of swamp mat, such as the Durabase bog mats offered by distributors such as JWA oilfield supplies, will be heavy-duty enough to allow the transportation of even the heaviest loads with minimal surface damage and without damaging sub-surface utilities.

Protect the Environment:

Wetland areas tend to have a diverse and numerous cast of plant and animal life, which makes construction in these areas potentially disastrous for local ecosystems. Bog mats can be used to protect not only the ground and any plants growing in it, but also to keep all traffic on a straight, reliable path to minimize the disruption caused by home construction. Without a clear path to follow, construction vehicles and foot traffic are likely to use a wider area going to and from the site, which leads to more potential damage to natural habitats.

To make construction on wetlands easier and more convenient and protect local ecosystems, utilizing swamp mats during home construction is the wisest choice. Protecting these ecosystems, many of which are under federal conservation regulations, is important, just as important as ensuring that construction isn’t derailed by structural issues. The variety of types and sizes of swamp mats makes them suitable for any watery conditions, and their durability allow for maximum efficiency and environmental protection alike.
